The world can be overwhelming for those with memory loss, but Fox Trail’s patient-centered approach can reduce anxiety and foster a comforting sense of predictability through daily routines.
“Residents benefit immensely from routines tailored to their individual needs,” said Daniela Antic, community director at Fox Trail’s Montville facility. “Simple, consistent routines for meals and activities create a sense of security and calm, helping residents feel more at ease in their environment.”
Individuals at Fox Trail Memory Care Living receive personalized support, and are helped to establish a routine that meets their personal lifestyle and needs. “Routines help bridge that gap for individuals with memory loss, creating familiarity and stability, which are essential for emotional well-being,” Antic said.
Fox Trail is designed specifically for memory care, and has homes throughout the Garden State, some of which accommodate between 15-16 residents, allowing them to create a highly personalized approach.
“This focus enables us to create a community where residents are truly known, and their needs are prioritized,” Antic said.
When a new resident joins the Fox Trail community, they are slowly introduced into meaningful activities, giving them time to build confidence. The process usually takes about two weeks for a new resident to settle in. During that time, Fox Trail staff take time to get to know them so they can provide person-centered care. Each day, residents are invited to engage in activities that reflect their interests and past experiences, such as crafts, gentle exercise and games.
In addition, activities that focus on social, emotional and physical well-being are emphasized. Indoor golf, yoga, bingo, puzzles, and secure outdoor areas to explore, are integrated into residents’ daily routines.
“Our backyard is wheelchair- and walker-friendly, allowing residents to take a stroll and enjoy fresh air when the weather is nice,” Antic said. Residents also receive spiritual support with weekly mass and religious services for residents’ diverse faiths.
This individualized approach to memory care helps residents feel respected and connected, supporting their well-being and helping them find joy and meaning every day.
Keeping Families Informed
Fox Trail also has a variety of tools to keep families up to date on their loved ones. The online community portal, InTouch Link, offers families an easy way to stay current on each resident’s day-to-day wellness, activities and community events. Families receive real-time updates, photos and notifications throughout the day, and can view activities, menus and special events.
“InTouch Link helps families stay informed and truly ‘in touch’ with their loved ones,” Antic said.
Families can download the InTouch Link app for access to their loved one’s updates. It also can be accessed through community TVs. Be on the lookout for workshops that can help families use the new software.
Fox Trail also has introduced robotic companion pets to enrich the lives with their residents. Designed with a person-centered approach to wellness, these Joy for All robotic pets by Ageless Innovation provide meaningful interactions that are soothing and therapeutic and can spark memories for residents who grew up with animals.
“These robotic pets are amazing,” Antic said. “They meow, purr and even move their heads — they’re so realistic.” These “companions” can reduce anxiety, ease loneliness and create moments of joy and relaxation for resident.
But if robot pets aren’t enough, Fox Trail also works with agencies to provide pet therapy sessions, ensuring that residents receive a variety of enriching, personalized interactions.
